“Pirates, Shipwrecks and Treasures”

Mike Daniel, naval historian, underwater explorer and marine coordinator for the film industry, will present, “Pirates, Shipwrecks and Treasures” to Middle and High School teachers and students on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm in the Museum of the Albemarle’s Gaither Auditorium. Mr. Daniel will discuss current recovery efforts at the purported Queen Anne’s Revenge wreck site as well as his involvement with other shipwreck sites.

Mr. Daniel is well known for his find in 1996 of the purported wreck of Blackbeard’s flagship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge (QAR) off the coast of Beaufort, North Carolina. Mr. Daniel also discovered the treasure laden Spanish Galleon the 1656 Nuestra Senora dela Maravilla, the richest treasure ship found to date in the western hemisphere. In 1990, he discovered two 1838 Seminole Indian War battle sites, the last stand of the Seminole.
