Tracking the Storm is Port Discover’s August Make-It-Take-It

Elizabeth City, NC— “Tracking the Storm” is the Make-It-Take-It at Port Discover for August. Children visiting the center can learn all about hurricanes, pick-up a free hurricane tracking guide, and make a simple barometer to take home and measure air pressure. The activity is available during the hours Port Discover is open and is free, thanks to a grant from the City of Elizabeth City.

Port Discover is located at 613 E. Main Street. Port Discover’s summer hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. Programs can be arranged at other times for special groups. For more information call 252-338-6117 or visit www.portdiscover.org.

Pasquotank Arts Council Update


PAC Gallery Current Exhibit - August 2nd - September 1st:

Incredible Insects at Port Discover’s Toddler Time August 16

Elizabeth City, NC - Join Port Discover on Thursday, August 16 for a special Toddler Time look at Incredible Insects—an exploration into the fascinating facts that make insects so special. Each child will make a glowing firefly to take home.

The program for two and three-year-olds will begin at 9:00; the program for four-and-five-year-olds begins at 10:00 a.m. Cost for the program is $5.00 per family and reservations are required. Parents or guardians must accompany the child. Reservations can be made by calling 338-6117.

The 21st Annual Art Competition

The Pasquotank Art Council's (PAC), 21st Annual Art Competition starts September 1st through September 6th, the Opening Reception is on September 9th where they will announce the awards, and will be displayed in the main gallery from September 9th - October 5th. The theme of this competition is for artists to capture the moment with their own creative expressions. In addition, the PAC's Art Competition is not limiting the theme to just Northeastern North Carolina. ART SHOW / Reception

On Thursday, August 16th, from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm - Come meet your local artists at Page After Page Bookstore!! Billy Richardson (a retired Coast Guard pilot) will have his latest original works, and prints on display. Deborah Polous (an established local artist) will have her charcoals and prints on display.
