Cemetery Walk

The Museum of the Albemarle will hold a Cemetery Walk in the Episcopal Cemetery on Saturday, October 20 from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm. Costumed Junior Docents will portray past Albemarle residents who are buried in the cemetery. Hear from a Civil War soldier, a famous teacher, and the only Albemarle resident to ever become governor. Free and open to the public. The Junior Docents are sponsored by Perry Auto Group.

Calling all ghosts and goblins! Museum of the Albemarle Presents “Boo!” on October 19, 2007 from 4:00 pm until 5:30 pm. Come carve your very own jack-o-lantern and learn the true facts surrounding Halloween. The program is open to students from fourth through eighth grade. Pre-registration and payment is required by: October 15, 2007. Admission: $10.00 per person or $8.00 for FOMOA Members

Magic The Gathering Lorwyn Release Event

Come out and play in a sealed or draft event. Prize support from Wizards and Earth 383.

All day event that will start at noon with a sealed deck event. You will purchase five packs of Lorwyn and build your deck from those cards. At 6:00 pm will be a booster draft event, each person will have to purchase three booster packs that will be used in the building of your deck and everyone elses. Prizes include booster packs, life counters, playmats, deck boxes, card sleeves, and rare cards.

On Thursday, October 11th from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm, there will be an opening reception for this new exhibit at the PAC Gallery, located at 609 East Main Street, Elizabeth City, NC. Come join in the fun and check out the photography!!

Firefighters at the Museum!

Museum of the Albemarle will hold “Pre-Schooler Time” on Thursday, October 11, 2007 from 10:00 am until 10:45 am. Participants must be between the ages of 3 to 5 years old and must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-Schoolers will have the opportunity to compare past and present fire equipment and talk with Firefighters from the Elizabeth City Fire Department. This is free to the public.

“An Apple A Day” Program Focuses on Healthy Eating At Port Discover’s Toddler Time, October 18

Elizabeth City, NC — Port Discover marks October as National Child Health Month with “An Apple A Day” Toddler Time program on Thursday, October 18. Healthy eating will be the focus of the program and children will learn about the food groups and why each is important. Activities will include apple printing and tasting some different types of apples.

The one-hour program for two and three-year-olds will begin at 9:30 am; the program for four-and-five-year-olds begins at 11:00 am. Cost for the program is $5.00 per family and reservations are required. Parents or guardians must accompany the child. Reservations can be made by calling 252-338-6117.

Port Discover is located at 613 East Main Street, Elizabeth City. Port Discover’s hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Programs can be arranged at other times for special groups. For more information call 252-338-6117 or http://www.portdiscover.org/.

Port Discover is a community-based, non-profit organization, established to enhance the public’s understanding and enjoyment of science through engaging programs, activities, and exhibits. Elizabeth City State University along with the Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce initiated the project that has attracted broad community support, including Elizabeth City Morning Rotary, College of the Albemarle, Albemarle Hospital, Museum of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools. Port Discover is also a member of the NC Grassroots Science Museum Collaborative.
