Join us Friday night at The Sellar Wine Bar (located inside The City Wine Sellar) for an evening of music, dinner, and wine/beer. Further Adieu with Nick Simmons is a group for all ages. They will play some great cover tunes, some Beatles tunes, a little Bob Dylan, as well as a few originals. They will entertain from 7-10 pm. Regular deli menu items served from 6-9 pm.

"Sound in Water" set for Second Saturday Science at Port Discover, January 12

Elizabeth City, NC — The world we live in is full of sound and so is the underwater world. Sound in Water will be offered at Port Discover’s Second Saturday Science on January 12. The program will focus on the different sounds that can be heard underneath the water and the creatures that make them. Dr. Maurice Crawford, assistant professor of geological, environmental and marine sciences at Elizabeth City State University, will present the program. Programs are scheduled for 9:30 am and 11:00 am.

Second Saturday Science programs are geared toward elementary school aged children. The program is free, thanks to the program sponsor, Gateway Bank. Reservations are required. Please call 252-338-6117 for registration.

Port Discover is a community-based, non-profit organization, established to enhance the public’s understanding and enjoyment of science through engaging programs, activities, and exhibits. Elizabeth City State University along with the Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce initiated the project that has attracted broad community support, including Elizabeth City Morning Rotary, College of the Albemarle, Albemarle Hospital, Museum of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools. Port Discover is also a member of the NC Grassroots Science Museum Collaborative.

Science Fair 101 Offered at Port Discover in January

Elizabeth City, NC — Science Fair 101 will be the focus of Port Discover’s "Think About It Thursday" in January. Beginning January 3 and continuing every Thursday in January, scientist Maille Lyons will be at Port Discover to help children improve their science fair projects. The program will focus on the fundamentals of the scientific method and will include tips for improving science fair projects. The Think About It Thursday program is offered from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm. No reservations are required and the program is free.
