Elizabeth City, North Carolina and the Civil War: A History of Battle and Occupation by Alex Christopher Meekins (The History Press, 2007). By 1862, Elizabeth City disappears from the story in most secondary works. This is the first book to document its history over the entire war. I didn't see an author bio inside the book, but I've been told Meekins works for the state archives & records division so he undoubtedly knows his stuff. read more...

Hide-N-Wood Gardens
Come and visit Hide-N-Wood Gardens!! The garden consists of eight raised beds and four elevated beds. Throughout the year, you can see demonstrations of intensified gardening techniques on small fruits and vegetables. In addition, portions of the garden have been designed as a Native Plant Habitat by NC NPS.Hide-N-Wood Gardens will be open to the general public, daylight hours, from March 1st to November 30 2008. With emphasis on food production by persons with a physical or mental handicap.

Join us Friday night at The Sellar Wine Bar (located inside The City Wine Sellar) for an evening of music, dinner, and wine/beer. Further Adieu with Nick Simmons is a group for all ages. They will play some great cover tunes, some Beatles tunes, a little Bob Dylan, as well as a few originals. They will entertain from 7-10 pm. Regular deli menu items served from 6-9 pm.
