Space Sciences Featured at Port Discover program

NASA Ambassador to present "Space Sciences" at Port Discover's
Second Saturday Science, March 14

Elizabeth City, NC — The history and future of space exploration, including the NASA Rover, will be the focus of the next Second Saturday Science, March 14. Professor Ernst Wilson, assistant professor of aviation sciences and space science studies coordinator at Elizabeth City State University, will present the program "Space Sciences" at 9:30 am and 11:00 am. Professor Wilson also serves as the NASA Jet Propulsion Lab Ambassador for Northeastern North Carolina and will provide information about NASA's latest news.

Second Saturday Science is free, thanks to the program sponsor, Gateway Bank. Reservations are required. Second Saturday Science programs are geared toward elementary school aged children. Please call 252-338-6117 for registration.

Port Discover is located at 613 East Main Street, Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Port Discover's hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Programs can be arranged at other times for special groups. For more information call 252-338-6117 or visit www.portdiscover.org.

Port Discover is a community-based, non-profit organization, established to enhance the public’s understanding and enjoyment of science through engaging programs, activities, and exhibits. Elizabeth City State University along with the Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce initiated the project that has attracted broad community support, including Elizabeth City Morning Rotary, College of the Albemarle, Albemarle Hospital, Museum of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools. Port Discover is also a member of the NC Grassroots Science Museum Collaborative.

"Art DuckO" Exhibit at Museum of the Albemarle Celebrates North Carolina Waterfowl

(Elizabeth City, NC, Feb. 19, 2009) – Traditions of duck hunting and decoy making are brought to life at the Museum of the Albemarle in a new exhibit, "Art DuckO: Waterfowl Culture in North Carolina." More than 100 decoys by noted carvers, unique feathered fashions and interactive activities are featured in the exhibit that opens with a "Family Day" on Sunday, March 8, at 2:00 pm. Both the Family Day and regular admission to the museum are free. The exhibition will be displayed through March 2010. [read more]
