Ant Power! Set for Port Discover’s Toddler Time, July 16

Elizabeth City, NC — Discover the amazing characteristics of ants and why they are so important during Ant Power!, Port Discover’s July Toddler Time, Thursday, July 16. Ant-themed games, activities, and songs will engage the young entomologists. The program begins at 10:00 am and reservations are required.

Toddler Time is a science program just for preschoolers, ages 3 – 5. Cost for the program is $5 per family and reservations are required. Parents or guardians must accompany the child.

Port Discover is located at 613 East Main Street, Elizabeth City. Port Discover’s hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Programs can be arranged at other times for special groups. For more information call 252-338-6117 or www.portdiscover.org.

Port Discover is a community-based, non-profit organization, established to enhance the public’s understanding and enjoyment of science through engaging programs, activities, and exhibits. Elizabeth City State University along with the Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce initiated the project that has attracted broad community support, including Elizabeth City Morning Rotary, College of the Albemarle, Albemarle Hospital, Museum of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools. Port Discover is also a member of the NC Grassroots Science Museum Collaborative.

Keep them in books all summer long with our great picks - This six week program will be led by our own Ellie Dorsey - the two groups will meet each tuesday to review what has read and participate in a fun activity to go along with the book - Starting Tuesday July 7th - August 11th - ages 8 and up - cost is 30.00 per child and includes the book and all activities.

Page After Page hosts Summer Book Travelers Reading program

It's summer, school is out, and that can only mean one thing: all the time in the world to read books!

Come on, you've thought of it. There's nothing more fun than heading out on an adventure--especially when you get home in time for dinner.

Come join Page After Page on a journey with your mind - we will share many adventures and experiences reading the following books together - Our reading fun will last 6 weeks - starting on July 7th and ending on August 11th. Our meetings will be every Tuesday. Each week we will discuss the books progress - and share enjoyment and stories -

Bears of the Dismal Swamp Featured at Second Saturday Science

Bears of the Dismal Swamp Featured at Port Discover’s Second Saturday Science, July 11

Elizabeth City, NC — Learn about the more than 300 black bears that call the Dismal Swamp home at Port Discover’s next Second Saturday Science, "Just the Bear Essentials", July 11. Ranger Signa Williams from the Dismal Swamp State Park will use taxidermy mounts, skulls, pictures, and more to present the program highlighting the black bears that inhabit the swamp. "Just the Bear Essentials" will be offered at 9:30 am and 11:00 am.

Second Saturday Science is free, thanks to the program sponsor, Gateway Bank. Reservations are required. Second Saturday Science programs are geared toward elementary school aged children. Please call 252-338-6117 for registration.
