REF: National Night Out Against Crime

The Elizabeth City Police Department will host their fourth Annual National Night Out Against Crime, Tuesday August 5th, 2008, from 5pm-10pm at Waterfront Park in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Set up to be completed at 4pm.

Festivities will begin at 5pm down at the waterfront with block parties being hosted throughout the city, where police will caravan and distribute crime prevention material. Then the opening ceremonies will begin at 6:30pm at the center stage with a speech from Frank Parrish with the District Attorneys office, and conclude at 9pm with a “Unity Walk” through the Cale/Shepard Street area.

National Night Out is an event held across the nation to promote crime prevention, police community relationships and neighborhood unity. More than 110,000 communities and 34 million people are expected to join forces on this night and make their neighborhoods crime and gang free.

The Elizabeth City Police Department certainly intends to do their part by having a going away party for crime that you will always remember and criminals would like to forget.

Local singing artist Linda Farley will have a live performance starting at 5:30pm with a local favorite “Further Adieu” capping of the festivities from 7:30pm until 10:00pm.

There will be scores of demonstrations, static displays by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. A car & motorcycle show, planes, military vehicles, boats, race cars, monster trucks, and a NASCAR simulator. Plenty of kids activities to include face painting, super slide, a rock wall, Jurassic adventure, Dixie twister, moon walk, and a lot more. There will be live K-9, Project Lifesaver, and martial arts demonstrations. Don’t forget plenty of good food, OVER 150 booths.

The highlights of the night will be our very own, 2nd Annual “Doughnut Eating Contest” with a trophy going to the “Top Cop” and our 1st Tug-Of-War Challenge, “Come Pull Against the Pork.” We will also host a car and motorcycle show with best in show trophies going to 4 divisions, antique, newer model, sport and touring class.

Come out and enjoy this event; bring your lounge chair or favorite blanket and picnic in the park as we march crime out of Elizabeth City.
