Elizabeth City Historic Preservation Commission Celebrates National Preservation Month

May has been designed as the Fourth Annual National Preservation Month, by the National Trust for Historic Preservational. And while this year's theme - This Place Matters - is new, the idea behind preservation month remains the same: celebrating the country's diverse and irreplaceable heritage evidenced by the histroic structures around us.

Elizabeth City is rich in these historic structures; and the Elizabeth City Historic Preservation Commission invites everyone to join them in celebration of our architectural heritage through this month-long series of programs, tours, and how-to workshops.

THURSDAY, MAY 1
Tax Credits for Historic Preservation

    Port Discover Looks Up at the Skies for Second Saturday Science, May 10

    Elizabeth City, NC — Port Discover offers an exploration of the solar system as part of the Second Saturday Science program, Spectacular Solar System, set for Saturday, May 10 at Port Discover. How big are the planets and the sun? What are some theories about the how the solar system began? Billy Younger, instructor of Mathematics & Physics at the College of the Albemarle, will lead the program. Second Saturday Science is free, thanks to the program sponsor, Gateway Bank. Reservations are required. Programs are scheduled for 9:30 am and 11:00 am. Second Saturday Science programs are geared toward elementary school aged children.     Port Discover is a community-based, non-profit organization, established to enhance the public’s understanding and enjoyment of science through engaging programs, activities, and exhibits. Elizabeth City State University along with the Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce initiated the project that has attracted broad community support, including Elizabeth City Morning Rotary, College of the Albemarle, Albemarle Hospital, Museum of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools. Port Discover is also a member of the NC Grassroots Science Museum Collaborative.

BC offers a CD of his band's tunes for only $10.00.
