To Celebrate 25 Years of its Famous Rose Buddies, Elizabeth City to Dedicate Marker, Sept. 18

(Elizabeth City, N.C., Aug. 21, 2008) – For a quarter of a century, Elizabeth City’s famous Rose Buddies have welcomed boating visitors with fresh-cut roses and a wine-and-cheese party served by the water’s edge. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the volunteer welcome crew – and in memory of the boating enthusiasts who started the tradition – Elizabeth City officials will dedicate a special marker Sept. 18 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Mariners’ Wharf and Groupers Restaurant. ENJOY A DAY ON THE RIVER FEATURING THE CLASSIC MOTH BOAT

The Friends of the Museum of the Albemarle invite you to participate in the 20th annual "A Day on the River featuring the Classic Moth Boat" Saturday September 20. Free family activities presented by the Museum’s Junior Docents begin at 10:00 am on the Museum Green with children’s crafts including making a miniature wooden sailboat, and making pirate hats. Enjoy the maritime music of performer Bill Darrow. Watch boat building demonstrations from the COA boat building class, and meet “Coastie” the talking boat from the U. S. Coast Guard. The Regatta begins at 11:00 am, and races will continue throughout the day featuring classic moth boats and classes for other small boats. Race registration is limited so sign up now! Also, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm visitors can participate in a book discussion and signing by C.S. Harrington author of Marsh Runners and meet Mullet Roar author William K. Brown and Dismal? The Great Dismal Swamp author Ben Casey who will host presentations in the Gaither Auditorium at 11:00 am and at 2:00 pm.

On sale in the lobby are limited edition t-shirts featuring the classic moth boat’s 20th anniversary at $15.00 each.

A Museum benefit dinner will begin at 5:00 pm. Tickets are available through the Museum at $10.00 each. All proceeds from the benefit dinner and the sale of t-shirts and other memorabilia will benefit the Friends of the Museum of the Albemarle.

The doors open at 10:00 am and every thing in the store is on sale. GRAPHIC NOVELS and MANGA but 2 get the third FREE. TOYS and T-SHIRTS $10.00. Back Issue Box sales $1.00 and issue or fill a long box $150.00. As long as supplies last there will be grab bags with randomly inserted tickets for door prizes. There will be a cook out and live music provided by FURTHER ADIEU starting at 1:00pm. Come dressed as your favorite hero or anime characters. Super Man will be attending.

IKeep the summer alive with music this Friday by BC at The City Wine Sellar. BC will keep your toes tapping with rock, reggae, blues, folk, and a few unique originals. You can usually hear BC playing with his band, The Dreadnecks, at such Outer Banks venues as The Brewing Station, Port O' Call, Chili Peppers and The Beach Bread Company. BC offers a CD of his band's tunes for only $10.00.

Check him out playing an original song (We are All One) in Kauai, Hawaii!

BC will play from 7-10 pm. Regular deli menu items served from 6-9 pm. Non-smoking inside venue. Smoking allowed in outside cafe.
