Elizabeth City Serves Up Savory Spuds, Fun and More at the NC Potato Festival, May 16

(Elizabeth City, NC, April 6, 2009) – Whether you like your potatoes mashed, scalloped, hash browned or fried, there will be a spud for every taste – and fun for every age – when the North Carolina Potato Festival opens May 16 along the downtown waterfront in Elizabeth City.

The farm lands along the Albemarle Sound are among the state's major potato-growing areas, and the festival started as a simple tribute to the potato farmers.

"The support of the local business and agricultural community continues to grow annually, which has allowed us to expand in making this unique, fun-filled family event a success," said Peggy Langley, executive director of Elizabeth City Downtown Inc., and organizer of the annual event. "Last year, we drew over 12,000 spectators and are expecting more with this year’s great line up of festival events." [read more]
