(Elizabeth City, NC, April 6, 2009) – Whether you like your potatoes mashed, scalloped, hash browned or fried, there will be a spud for every taste – and fun for every age – when the North Carolina Potato Festival opens May 16 along the downtown waterfront in Elizabeth City.
The farm lands along the Albemarle Sound are among the state's major potato-growing areas, and the festival started as a simple tribute to the potato farmers.
"The support of the local business and agricultural community continues to grow annually, which has allowed us to expand in making this unique, fun-filled family event a success," said Peggy Langley, executive director of Elizabeth City Downtown Inc., and organizer of the annual event.
