Mariners’ Wharf Will Come Alive with Music This Fall

September 19 through October 24, 2009 will mark the first annual MUSIC ON THE GREEN AT MARINERS’ WHARF, a fall festival featuring an eclectic and colorful mix of the area’s best local and regional musicians. Highlighting Top 40, country, classic rock, jazz, Christian rock, bluegrass, and blues, MUSIC ON THE GREEN will run for six weeks on consecutive Saturdays from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.

A natural spin-off of the well-received Mariners’ Wharf Film Festival, and brainchild of Debbie Malenfant, owner of City Wine Sellar, and Maureen Donnelly, owner of the Elizabeth City Bed & Breakfast, MUSIC ON THE GREEN is free to the public, with donations accepted for the bands.

"While the event is a music festival, patrons will be encouraged to visit downtown businesses both before and after the concerts," Malenfant says. "The time of the festival was selected specifically to generate shopping in our lovely boutiques and dining in one of our many restaurants, bars, and taverns in downtown Elizabeth City, giving residents and tourists the opportunity to make ‘a day of it’ in a variety of ways." Donnelly notes that MUSIC ON THE GREEN is a wonderful way to showcase all the great musical talent in the area. "We know that people enjoy live music and the opportunity to visit and utilize our beautiful waterfront," she says. "Elizabeth City is a great weekend getaway for travelers who want to experience a charming historic community with a variety of activities."

Located on the lawn at Mariners’ Wharf, which was the site of the film festival and is the home of Saturday morning’s popular Downtown Waterfront Market, MUSIC ON THE GREEN will feature the following bands for 2009:

September 19 : Chuck Hodges and His Makeshift Band
September 26 : Connected
October 3 : Ticky Tacky
October 10 : Uphill
October 17 : Moments of Glory
October 24 : Bobby Plough
