The Elizabeth City Police Department is very pleased to announce exciting plans for the fifth annual "2009 National Night Out Against Crime," to be held on Tuesday, August 4th, 2009. This year's theme is, "Give Neighborhood Crime and Drugs A Going Away Party." The event will be held from 4:00 pm until 10:00 pm at the city's beautiful Waterfront Park. They are requesting your participation to enhance our community event and to express a determination to protest crime and gang activity and enjoy security within our homes and neighborhoods. They already have firm commitments from several law enforcement agencies, public safety entities, businesses and neighborhood organizations as well. They will include amusements for kids, entertainment for adults, tons of demonstrations, free giveaways, and an array of food vendors. FILM SHOWING AT THE MUSEUM OF THE ALBEMARLE

(Elizabeth City, NC) The beach surf documentary "Any Given Morning" will be shown by the Museum of the Albemarle, 501 South Water Street in Elizabeth City on Saturday, July 25th at 2:00 pm in the Gaither Auditorium. On hand will be the film's creator Laurel Hughes. Hughes, a native of Elizabeth City first got the surfing 'bug' in 2006 and it bit her hard. She worked in Wilmington, North Carolina and had easy access to the beach. She befriended a group of surfers who surfed at Wrightsville Beach and, after seeing a surf film at a local film festival, decided to tell their stories on film. Hughes and her crew spent a year making the film which was, not surprisingly, a labor of love.

Hughes will be on hand after the movie for a question and answer session. Light refreshments will be served.

This is a free event.

For more information, call the Museum’s Education Department at 252-335-1453.
