Jeremy Winthrop seeking a job promotion offers his two bosses and their wives use of his vacation cottage while he is on his honeymoon. Returning early, the newlyweds discover the bosses as house guests, with each other’s wife! Trying to maintain two simultaneous dinner parties interspersed with an inebriated plumber the evening quickly becomes a comedy of errors.

The cast includes three new faces, Dan Walker, Crystal Ivy and Dean Schaan. Rounding out the frenetic pace are Brenda Bloch, Denise Wheelbarger, Frank Parrish and Rick Boyd.

Battle to be Commemorated

Battle to be Commemorated
(Elizabeth City, NC) The Museum of the Albemarle will commemorate the Battle of Elizabeth City, fought on February 10, 1862 with its Civil War Living History Days on February 6, 2010. As the war in the Albemarle was largely one fought on the sounds and rivers as well as a partisan war, naval and partisan ranger reenactors will be present to discuss those aspects of the war through demonstrations, exhibits, and displays. Interpreters from the Civil War reenactor community have enthusiastically volunteered to present two days of programming. Friday, February 5’s event will be open for school group reservations from 9:00 am — 1:00 pm.

Saturday will be open to the public from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. Demonstrations, mustering of the troops and artillery firing will occur on The Green and at Waterfront Park. Many exhibits of personal collections of Civil War era artifacts will be on display in the Lobby. Members of the Tar Heel Civilians, a North Carolina Civil War Reenactment Group will be presenting programs that bring the Civilian aspect of the wartime era to the public. A lecture series will be held in the Gaither Auditorium. Speakers and their topics include: Ronnie Woolard: "The Impact of Chaplains on Civil War Soldiers"; Jason Madre: "The Battle of Elizabeth City History of the Mosquito Fleet" and Bruce Long: CSS Appomattox.

Food Chain Fun Set for Port Discover’s Toddler Time, Thursday, December 17
Elizabeth City, NC — Preschoolers will go on a Food Chair Adventure during Port Discover’s Toddler Time, Thursday, December 17, at 10:00 am. Through stories and activities, children will learn all about terrestrial and aquatic food chains. Children will also create a model of a terrestrial food chain to take home.

Toddler Time is a science program just for preschoolers, ages 3 – 5. Cost for the program is $5 per family and reservations are required. Parents or guardians must accompany the child.

Port Discover is located at 613 East Main Street, Elizabeth City. Port Discover’s hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Programs can be arranged at other times for special groups. For more information call 252-338-6117.

Port Discover is a community-based, non-profit organization, established to enhance the public’s understanding and enjoyment of science through engaging programs, activities, and exhibits. Elizabeth City State University along with the Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce initiated the project that has attracted broad community support, including Elizabeth City Morning Rotary, College of the Albemarle, Albemarle Hospital, Museum of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools. Port Discover is also a member of the NC Grassroots Science Museum Collaborative.

GATES COUNTY DAY AT THE MUSEUM
(Elizabeth City, NC) Sunday, December 13th, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, the Museum of the Albemarle will pay special tribute to Gates County, one of the 13 counties in its interpretive region. A focus on Gates County artifacts from the "Our Story" exhibit and special recognition from Gates dignitaries will form the afternoon’s program.

The highlight of the program will be the unveiling of the recently restored "Nixon/Lassiter Log Cabin Quilt."

The quilt had been hand made in 1886 by Ida Gordon Lassiter Nixon, the first wife of William Nixon Jr. to commemorate their wedding.A generous contributor from Hertford, Perquimans County decided to fund the restoration project through MOA’s Adopt an Artifact Program.

Guest speakers and presenters for this event include Edith Seiling, Ray Freeman, Linda Hofler, and Cynthia Nixon Mastro.

Everyone is invited to come and enjoy this tribute to Gates County. Light refreshments will be served.

Adopt an Artifact
Help the Museum of the Albemarle protect our state treasures by adopting an artifact in need of conservation. Your tax-deductible donation in any amount will help support the museum’s mission of preserving artifacts and other historical materials relating to the history and heritage of northeastern North Carolina. The Nixon/Lassiter quilt on display is an example of an artifact that was conserved through the Adopt an Artifact program.

ECSU Struggles Offensively; Loses Third Straight Game

ELIZABETH CITY, NC - The Saint Augustine’s College Falcons won their fifth straight contest with a 65-46 win over Elizabeth City State University Saturday evening at the RL Vaughan Center.

Chris Jordan led three Falcons in double figures with a game high 23 points including 4-7 shooting from behind the 3-point arc. Steven Brignol scored 13 points while Hayward Fain added a double-double of 16 points and 11 boards.

The Falcons (5-1, CIAA 4-0) shot a solid 44 % from the floor including 10-18 from beyond the 3-point line (55%). SAC hit seven three-pointers in the first half helping to engineer a 33-19 lead at the intermission.

The Falcons also dominated the boards with a commanding 42-28 edge which led to 17 second chance points for the visitors. ECSU shot only 30% from the field for the game while the Falcons dominated the paint 24-8.

Marquie Cooke was the only Viking to register double figures with 24 points off the bench.

ELIZABETH CITY, NC - The Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings held on for a 58-52 victory over St. Augustine’s College Saturday night at the RL Vaughan Center.

The Lady Vikings led from the opening tip and held a 25-13 lead at the break. SAC (3-3, CIAA 2-2) opened the second half on an 11-0 run to cut the Lady Viking lead to a point (25-24) at the 16:22 mark. ECSU then reeled off seven unanswered points and the Lady Falcons would get no closer than to within three points the rest of the way. Kenyatta Gill registered her second double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Kearah Jefferys flirted with a triple double tallying 12 points, a career high 10 assists and 8 steals (ties career high). Tiffany Gadsden chipped in with 10 points off the bench.

Keyona Bryant and Allison Sikes paced the Lady Falcons with 22 and 13 points, respectively. Sikes added 10 boards for a double-double of her own.

Markus Douglas Named Offensive, Game MVP as Tuskegee Wins Battle of Field Position

December 5, 2009

COLUMBIA, SC - Tuskegee University’s Markus Douglas rushed for two second half touchdowns in route to MVP honors and a 21-7 Golden Tiger victory over Elizabeth City State University in Pioneer Bowl XI Saturday afternoon at Charlie W. Johnson Stadium.

Douglas’ 8-yard run with 8:13 remaining (plus a 2-point conversion) in the third quarter gave the lead back to the Golden Tigers 14-7. He would add another rushing score with 6:02 left in the game to seal the win for TU, their seventh victory at the battle between the SIAC and CIAA.

The Vikings briefly took a 7-6 lead at 11:08 in the third quarter. Terry Griffin forced a fumble at the TU 10-yard line which he returned to the Golden Tiger 5 yard line. Four plays later Tashawn Lee’s three-yard pass was hauled in by Dexter Manley for ECSU’s first and as it turned out to be, only score of the day. On the ensuing kickoff TU’s Wayne Williams returned the ball all the way to the Viking 29 yard line setting up the first of Douglas’ two touchdowns.

Through almost the entire first half it was a battle of field position as neither team could muster much offensively. The Golden Tigers, facing fourth down and two on the ECSU 26, all but had a sure touchdown courtesy of Douglas in second quarter. He broke up the middle for 25 yards however Justin Hamilton stripped the ball at the goal line where Jeff Lynn, Jr. batted out the back of the end zone for an ECSU touchback with 7:06 left before intermission. However the Viking offense went three and out and the Golden Tigers broke the scoreless tie with a 7-play 55 yard drive on a 13-yard rushing score by Nykeem Barton. The extra point attempt was blocked by Devon Price making the score 6-0.

The Golden Tigers held the edge in total offense (334-288) and rushing yards (146-114). The Vikings struggled offensively as they did not covert on a third down until the fourth quarter going 3-for-14 for the game.

Geno Trundle and Tolbert Matthews (Defensive MVP) each tallied 11 tackles apiece as ECSU finishes the year at 7-4 overall.
