Stella T. Duhaime served as Bearer of the Mace on May 8 at ECSU

ECSU congratulates Stella T. Duhaime as the Bearer of the Mace for the university’s 150th commencement held on May 8. Duhaime graduated with a 3.958 grade point average. She completed her student teaching in Pasquotank County and plans to teach at area school. Duhaime, a mother of two, worked full time while earning her degree. She earned her degree by attending classes held on campus and by taking online courses. She was one of 21 graduates from the Department of Education and 249 graduates from ECSU.

The honor of bearing the mace is reserved for the non-transfer, graduating senior who holds the highest cumulative grade point average. The ECSU Mace is 70 inches tall and consists of three dynamic centers of significant components. The focal point is a replica of a Viking’s head cast in bronze, with brass rays extending from the center depicting knowledge, enlightenment, wisdom and democracy. A bronze seal of the university adorns the reverse side. ECSU Professor Alexis Joyner, the chairperson of the ECSU Art Department, designed the mace.
