Elizabeth City Morning Rotary Club Raises $2,190 for Food Bank of the Albemarle

Elizabeth City, NC — Members of the Elizabeth City Morning Rotary Club raised and donated $2,190 to support the Food Bank of the Albemarle’s 2010 Walk for Hunger. Accepting the check from Elizabeth City Morning Rotary Club President Robert Pippin was Liz Reasoner, Executive Director of the Food Bank of the Albemarle. At the presentation, Reasoner told the club that their donation would make it possible for the Food Bank to provide approximate five and one-half tons of food. That is the equivalent of about 8,550 meals. Each donated dollar enables the Food Bank to provide about five pounds of food or approximately four meals. The Walk for Hunger is held annually, usually on the second Sunday in October, by the Food Bank. The Elizabeth City Morning Rotary Club has traditionally supported the walk and made a significant contribution to helping to feed the hungry and needy in our community.

The Elizabeth City Morning Rotary Club is celebrating its 25th year in 2010. Since being established in 1985, the club has supported numerous organizations, both local and international. Among the local organizations that have received support from the Elizabeth City Morning Rotary Club are the Boys and Girls Club, the Museum of the Albemarle, Wesley House, Elizabeth City State University, Food Bank of the Albemarle, Salvation Army, Girls Inc., Port Discover, College of the Albemarle and others.
