November & December 2010: Arts of the Albemarle Events

  • What is Happening at The Center: Jane Filer Exhibit thru Nov. 13th
    • Jane Filer's exhibit will run through next weekend November 13th, if you haven't stopped in to see her work, it is worth the trip! Her playful and creative imagination is evident in this body of work.

  • The Christmas Corner at The Center-Beginning November 12th
    • Arts of the Albemarle is delighted to announce its Christmas Corner at The Center. Beginning November 12th, in the Dee Hull Room, we will host a Christmas Corner filled with local handcrafted art perfect for the holiday gift-giving. Stop by The Center for cider and Christmas cookies through out the Holiday Season.

  • Down East Art Exhibit-November 19th - December 30th
    • Arts of the Albemarle welcomes the work of Peggy Brinkley and Fred Saunders. Peggy Brinkley, AOA's 2009 Landmark Winner is joined by her peer J. Fred Saunders. Local established Artist that paint our local landscape.
    • This is a show you don't want to miss!
    • Opening Reception, Friday, November 19th 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

  • Carolina Choral presents Handel's Messiah-November 21st
    • Arts of the Albemarle is proud to sponsor the performance by Carolina Choral of Handel's Messiah on Sunday, November 21st. This event will be held at First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth City from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Admission is free to the public however donations to the Food Bank of the Albemarle will be accepted.

  • "Creative Economy Public Report Out Meeting" - November 30th
    • AOA is hosting a public meeting on Tuesday, November 30th regarding the progress of its strategic planning process of the $100,000 North Carolina Rural Center Grant. Special Guest Secretary Linda Carlisle will speak about her interest in the Arts and "the creative economy." The meeting will be held in The Maguire Theater beginning at 5:30 pm.

  • Book Signing: December 6th
    • We are pleased to announce that Sally Nixon Haines, the author of "Coming Home-The North Carolina Outer Banks" will be hosting a book signing at AOA in the Gallery on Tuesday, December 6th from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm. The novel invites readers to see the Outer Banks as locals do, offering insider information, travel tips and amusing anecdotes.
    • It is a wonderful read and a great stocking stuffer! Join us on Tuesday, December 6th at 2:00 pm.

  • "Christmas on Main" - December 11th
    • The Center Players are back like never before, performing for the first time, "Christmas on Main-a Christmas Musical." AOA is offering a matinee and evening performance. The 2:00 pm Matinee Admission is $10 and $8 for children 12 and under. The 7:00 pm Evening Admission is $12 and $10 for children 12 and under.   • "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" - December 18th
    • The Christmas story takes on new meaning when the unruly Herdman kids take over the annual church pageant. The Hurrah Players, from Norfolk, VA, presents this fun-filled holiday play at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm in the Maguire Theater at The Center. The Matinee Admission is $15 and $12 for children 12 and under, the evening performance is $18 and $15 for children 12 and under. Call (252) 338-6455 for ticket information or visit www.artsaoa.com.

  • "Christmas Through a Child's Eyes" - December 19th
    • Arts of the Albemarle is proud to have the Hampton Roads Men's Chorus perform "Christmas Through a Child's Eyes on Sunday, December 19th at 3:00 pm. Featuring music from The Polar Express, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and much more.
