Poetry reading held on April 19 at the G.R. Little Library

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --- Calling all poets and poetry lovers!

The staff of the G.R. Little Library at Elizabeth City State University is hosting a Poetry Read-In from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, in the library’s board room.

Bring one of your own poems to read, or read one of your favorites penned by someone else. Poetry books will be available.

Elizabeth Byrne, a visiting professor at ECSU, will be mistress of ceremonies for the event, which will feature Eric A. Weil and Joseph Lisowski reading from their published works.

Weil’s poems have appeared in a number of publications, including “Poetry,” “The American Scholar,” “Poetry Review,” “Appalachian Journal” and “Literature & Belief.” His most recent book of poetry, “Returning from Mars,” was published in 2009. Weil is an associate professor in ECSU’s Language, Literature and Communications Department.

Lisowski, who is director of ECSU’s Center for Teaching Excellence, has written three mystery novels and several chapbooks. “JB,” his recent chapbook, is a dialogue in poetry form between John the Baptist and King Herod.

Von J. Bellows, president of the ECSU Poetry Club, also will be on hand with members of the group.

Vintage jazz and blues music will be played by the library’s Media Department. Refreshments also will be served.

The event is free and open to the public.
