Jasmine Guy urges local youths to prepare for college on March 9
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE--The students of Elizabeth City State University are proud to present, “A Different World: Planning Today for Your Tomorrow,” for local middle and high school students. The event will take place 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, March 9 at the R.L. Vaughan Center on the campus of Elizabeth City State University.

This event is designed to motivate and encourage youths to prepare now for higher education. Session topics include setting and pursuing career goals and dressing for success. Organizers will also hold a panel discussion featuring local community advocates.

Actress Jasmine Guy, best known for her portrayal of the southern belle, Whitley Gilbert, on the NBC sitcom, “A Different World,” is the guest speaker for the event. Guy is currently the national spokeswoman for the "I am Not Yours!" campaign, an effort to spread awareness and to fight child sex trafficking. Guy will also serve as the guest speaker for the ECSU Foundation’s Scholarship Gala VI later on March 9. http://www.ecsu.edu/administration/ia/foundation/gala/index.cfm
