to Reel: The Making of Gone with the Wind

Visit Real to Reel: The Making of Gone with the Wind
showcasing authentic memorabilia — costumes, screen tests, scene props, a
script, Vivien Leigh’s Academy Award, and more than 120 items from the James
Tumblin collection.
Be one of the first to visit this extraordinary exhibit.
Visit with Civil War era re-enactors in period costume. Children’s activities
include pony rides, games and crafts of the 19th century.
Experience Discover the Civil War through Photography
complete with new costumes and activities. Take pictures of your little
Scarlett or Rhett in front of a plantation house dressed in period costumes.
Enjoy a carriage ride along the riverfront.
Shop for Civil War and Gone with the Wind related items at the Museum
Gift Shop. Carolina Carriage rides are $5.00 per person.

In conjunction with the
Museum of the Albemarle’s newest exhibit Real to Reel: The Making of Gone with
the Wind, Education Coordinator, Charlotte Patterson, will present a History
for Lunch program on Wednesday, June 5 from 12:15-12:45 p.m.
The discussion will center on clothing used in the film and clothing in the exhibit and clothing of the 1860s. Bring your lunch and join the discussion, MOA will provide the beverages.

movies are filmed in Hollywood!
Several have been filmed right here in Eastern North
Carolina.
Dale Pollock, professor of cinema studies and producing at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, will present Filming in North Carolina: An Alternative to Hollywood.
His talk will focus on the Guardian, Nights in Rodanthe, Brainstorm, and Rescue Men: The Story of the Pea Island Lifesavers.

Museum of the Albemarle

Looking for something fun and educational for the little
ones in your life? The Museum of the
Albemarle and Port Discover will hold Hands-on Historians and Sprouting
Scientists Summer Camp beginning Monday, June 17 through Friday, June 21, 2013
from 8:30 a.m. until Noon.
Campers
5 to 8 years old will begin their adventure at the
Museum (Monday – Wednesday, June 17 - 19).
Campers will experience three adventures in three days by discovering an
Algonkian’s way of life, setting sail on a high sea adventure in search of
pirates, and discovering camp life as experienced by a Civil War soldier. Campers
then travel to Port Discover for the remainder of their adventure (Thursday-
Friday, June 20 - 21). Let your little
hero shine at Port Discover as they learn about ways they can make a difference
around the world and in their own community. This camp will explore the science
of germs, water quality, nutrition, recycling and energy. Campers will be a
positive force both globally and locally by discovering ways to slow the spread
of sickness and decrease their environmental footprint.
Campers
9 to 12 years old begin their adventure at Port
Discover (Monday – Wednesday, June 17-19).
Port Discover will transform campers into modern day super heroes as
they learn about ways they can make a difference around the world and in their
own community. This camp will explore the science of germs, water quality, food
production, recycling, and wind energy. Campers will be a positive force both
globally and locally by discovering ways to reduce hunger, slow the spread of
sickness, and decrease their environmental footprint. Campers will end their week of adventure at
Museum of the Albemarle (Thursday- Friday, June
20 - 21) where they will discover how World War II became everybody’s war in North Carolina.
Pre-registration and supply fee required.
Camp fee per child: By June 1 is $100: After June 1 is $110.

Summer
Fun Day! Memorable Sands
Wednesday,

Wear your sunglasses to welcome summer! Bring your beach
blankets and picnic on the Green.
Visit the Memorable Sands exhibit and experience the African
American beaches in North Carolina and Virginia. Amateur DJ
will play beach music while you try your steps on the dance floor! Make a toy
sailboat and other beach crafts.
Program is free. For Groups of 10 or more, reservations are
required.
