FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE---Four students received the Chancellor’s Distinguished Emblem Award in recognition of their outstanding academic performance. The award is reserved for graduating seniors who have maintained a 3.75 grade point average or higher for six consecutive semesters. The eight students earned all of their credit hours at Elizabeth City State University and have not transferred to ECSU from another institution. Each of these students received a blazer which bears the university seal on the breast pocket and gold buttons. The recipients follow:- Tiana Marie Ford, a New Brunswick, N.J. resident who is majoring in Business Administration.
- Jessica Naomi Young, a Roanoke Rapids, N.C. resident majoring in Business Administration.
- Obaida Nasri Mohammad, a native of the West Bank, Palestine, who is majoring in Engineering Technology.
- Brittany Whidbee, an Elizabeth City, N.C. resident who is majoring in Criminal Justice.
Dr. Velma Brown, director of Honors Program, said she was proud and happy to see all the winners.
"To reach the achievement of six consecutive semesters of 3.75 is in indication that one has been consistently good in all their coursework--no matter the major, no matter the teacher, no matter the distractions." "To see the parents of the Chancellor's Blazers winners, some of whom had driven from out-of-state, be so supportive of their efforts, is another clear indicator of why these students have performed so well and consistently."
These students earned top awards at the annual Honors Convocation on April 4 at Elizabeth City State University. Dr. William B. Harvey, dean of the School of Education at North Carolina A & T State University was the speaker.
