Vikings Drop First CIAA Contest of the Season on the Road

SALISBURY, NC - Livingstone College defeated Elizabeth City State University in overtime 72-69 Saturday evening at New Trent Gymnasium.
Freshman guard Quintin Spady hit a 3-pointer with 1.8 seconds remaining in regulation to force the extra session tied at 62 apiece. In overtime the Blue Bears outscored ECSU 11-8 going 4-6 from the field and 3-6 from the free throw line. The Blue Bears earn their first victory of the season by outrebounding the Vikings (+11) 41-30. The final board of the night sealed the LC victory when King Cannon’s rebound and put-back of a missed 3-pointer by Donte Durant accounted for the game’s final point spread.
The game saw 13 lead changes and 8 ties while both team struggled to convert from the free throw line. ECSU shot 52% (13-25) while the Blue Bears went 12-30 for 40%.
Spady led four Vikings in double figures with 16 points off the bench while Marquie Cooke added 12 points. Trent Bivens registered a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds and Blake Price chipped in with 10 points.
Jarred Stockton paced LC (1-2) with game highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds.
