Vikings’ Bench Play Dominant in as ECSU Begins 09-10 Campaign

ELIZABETH CITY, NC - The Elizabeth City State Vikings kicked off the 2009-2010 season with a 75-51 win over Voorhees College Thursday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
The Vikings shot a solid 48% from the field and forced 26 Tiger turnovers which were converted into 26 points. ECSU held its largest lead of the game, 55-24, with 11:12 left in the second half after leading 37-20 at the intermission.
Trent Bivens and Marquie Cook paced ECSU with 21 and 16 points, respectively. The Vikings bench dominated the Voorhees reserves 41-18. Although they were never seriously threatened by their opponent ECSU struggled from the charity stripe going 12-29 (41%).
Antwan Carter led the way for Voorhees (0-7) with a team high 12 points.
ECSU (1-0) will hit the road where they will open up conference play with Livingstone College on Saturday, November 21st. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
