ECSU Defense Holds Golden Bulls to a Season Low in Scoring

CHARLOTTE, NC- The Elizabeth City State Vikings earned a 54-38 victory over Johnson C. Smith University Monday night at Brayboy Gymnasium.
The Vikings used pressure defense to contest most of JCSU’s looks at the rim, holding the Golden Bulls to just 19 points in each half; 29% from the game. ECSU also forced 25 JCSU miscues resulting in 26 points off turnovers.
The Golden Bulls only lead came after Dante’ Drummer scored the game’s first basket at the 18:28 mark. The Vikings went on to stretch the game, connecting on five 3-pointers in the first half, two apiece by Trent Bivens and Blake Price. Price, who led ECSU with 10 points in the first half, finished with 14 points and 4 steals. Bivens finished with his second double-double of the season of 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Jerry Hollis was the Golden Bulls’ (2-2, CIAA 0-1) top scorer and rebounder with 10 point and 11 rebounds.
The Vikings (2-1, CIAA 1-1) will return to action at the 2009 Fresh Coast Classic in Milwaukee, WI November 27-28. They will face Lincoln University (MO) at 3:00 pm on Friday, November 27th. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
