Sharpless Notches First Career Double-Double as Vikings Sweep Season Series from Golden Bulls

ELIZABETH CITY, NC - Freshman guard Angelo Sharpless came off the bench to post game highs of 18 points and 11 rebounds as Elizabeth City State rallied from behind to defeat Johnson C. Smith 74-65 Saturday evening at the RL Vaughan Center.
Sharpless and fellow freshman Blake Price were a large part of the Vikings’ holding a 27-12 advantage in bench points over the Golden Bulls. Sharpless scored 11 of his points in the second half while Price poured in all nine of his points after the intermission. After ECSU trailed 35-27 at the break, the Vikings went on to explode for 47 second half points while holding JCSU (7-5, CIAA 2-4) to just 9-26 (34.6%) shooting over the final 20 minutes. The Vikings also scored 18 points off of 18 Golden Bull turnovers.
Paul Goldsmith and Marquie Cooke each added 14 points apiece and Trent Bivens poured in 16 points. ECSU shot a dismal 24 % in the first half before hitting 13-27 from the floor in the second stanza (48.1%). The Golden Bulls lead by as many as 14 in the first half.
Dante’ Drummer was the high man for JCSU with 12 points. The win give ECSU its first season sweep over JCSU in Shawn Walker’s tenure as head coach of the Vikings.
