ECSU hosts
IMA, collegiate music conference
FOR
IMMEDIATE---- The Elizabeth City State University Department of Music will
welcome students and faculty from 11 institutions for the 54th annual
Intercollegiate Music Association (IMA) conference Feb. 6 through 8.
Participants are expected from institutions in Maryland, Virginia and North
Carolina. Music students will complete a series of intense workshops during the
two days.
The
conference will culminate at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8 with a free concert
in the auditorium of the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center on the ECSU campus.
There, the students and guest conductors will present one of the year’s most
memorable performances among college and university symphonic bands, string
orchestras, mixed choirs and jazz ensembles.
The IMA was
founded in 1960 as a vehicle for enriching and enhancing the development of
students from its member institutions. IMA has been unwavering in its promotion
of excellence in both large and small vocal and instrumental ensembles. By
providing students and faculty musical opportunities in annual conferences,
workshops, seminars, recitals, lectures, demonstrations and discussions, the IMA
is fulfilling the ideals of its visionary founders.
