(CHARLESTON---Charleston (2-1) used a strong defensive effort to knock off 2006 NCAA Division II playoff participant Elizabeth City State. The Golden Eagles held the visitors from North Carolina without an offensive score during the game's first 57 minutes and got a pair of short Josh Culbertson touchdown rushes.
Elizabeth City State pulled with 17-8 on a 65-yard Rayburn Morris to Casey Owens touchdown pass with 2:53 left, but the Golden Eagles ran out the clock thanks to four Culbertson rushes that led to a pair of game-clinching first downs.
Charleston led 3-2 in a low-scoring first half as Wes Sherrill booted a 22-yard field goal for the Golden Eagles.
