Chick Power!!! Sarah Leary will spice up The City Wine Sellar on Friday evening as our first female act. We've had bands with female members (Ticky Tacky) and female guests (Connected), but never all all-female gig. It's a first -- and you know we're all about doing things new and different at the ole CWS! Sarah is an acoustic diva who will play a little folk and a little rock. She has an authentic, natural sound all her own. One day you'll see her on TV and say to yourself, "I saw her at The City Wine Sellar before she became famous!" Elizabeth City Featured in Yachting Magazine

In the October issue of Yachting magazine, writer and boating enthusiast Peter Swanson describes Elizabeth City as the preferred choice for “those who would stop and smell the roses.” In addition to lauding the hospitality of the “Rose Buddies,” he mentions the city’s burgeoning cultural scene and historic neighborhoods. In a sidebar, Peter highlights the Museum of the Albemarle’s recent exhibition of Ansel Adams photographs taken on a 1940 Intracoastal Waterway excursion. To view the article click here. College of The Albemarle, (Route 17 in Elizabeth City), is pleased to host a special event on Veterans’ Day to honor the service and sacrifice of all those who have served in our Armed Forces. Held in COA’s Auditorium, this program will feature survivors of the USS INDIANAPOLIS, which was torpedoed and sunk in the final days of World War II. Survivors of the blast spent five days at sea – unaware that their SOS calls had been ignored. Please join us to hear the harrowing ordeal of 317 brave men who fought for their lives - battling shark attacks, severe burns, dehydration, starvation, the effects of salt water and dementia. Learn the story behind the Indianapolis’ secret mission, its dramatic sinking, and the accidental rescue of its survivors. Hear about the subsequent – and controversial - court-martial of ship’s Captain Charles Butler McVay. After an exciting multi-media presentation, local crewmember/survivor - Felton Outland of Sunbury, NC - and two of his fellow sailors will share their stories and answer questions about this tragic event. A crewmember from one of the Navy rescue ships will also be on hand to recount the dramatic rescue efforts and on-board medical treatment protocols that were followed.

"Understanding and Improving Your Credit"
This Free seminar will be offered for business owners and the public and will focus on tips to help you improve your bottom line in business and control your expenses at home. The three-hour training course will be held on Thursday, October 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The class will be held in the John Wood Foreman Technology Center at the Elizabeth City Campus in Room FC-121-A.

The instructor will be Bob Moore, Director, Small Business Center Robeson Community College.

Tune into the WTKR-TV for the “Staycation” segment on Oct. 17th

The ECACVB used this paid media opportunity to promote Elizabeth City’s great line-up of October events. You’ll see interviews with TDA Chairwoman Maureen Donnelly, who talks about the Elizabeth City Historic Ghost Walk; Lisa Winslow, representing the Albemarle Craftsman’s Fair; and Dr. Sultana Khan, for the ECSU Planetarium Halloween star shows.

RBC's - Happenings in November

The classic play: Arsenic and Old Lace by Joseph Kesselring

The year is 1941, and the setting is a small house next to a cemetery in Brooklyn. The home is the residence of two kind, thoughtful, sweet elderly ladies, Martha and Abby Brewster who attract “lonely” men to their house with an ad for a room for rent. The unsuspecting quest is served an arsenic laden drink. The classic comedy rotates around what the sister’s view as “charity”. They cannot stand to see “lonely” men roam the streets when they can send them to a better place.. They even conduct private funerals for their deceased friends. They then leave it to their bugle blowing nephew Teddy, who thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt, to take them to the cellar, and bury them. It is another of their nephews Mortimer Brewster, who returns home and discovers his aunts actions when he finds a dead man in the window seat. Mortimer tries to keep his aunts safe and prevent them from continuing their nasty habit while trying to stay sane. The classic comedy keeps people laughing and guessing until the very end.
