River City CDC's Work Camp July 26 - August 1, 2009

River City River City Community Development Corporation will host 2009 Group Workcamps Project, during the Week of July 26 – August 1, 2009 in partnership with Group Workcamps from Loveland Colorado. Group Workcamps is a proven program that pairs hundreds of teenagers and adult sponsors with communities like ours to provide home repairs for the elderly low-income and disabled residents. Home repairs will consist of porch and step repair, wheelchair ramp construction, interior and exterior painting, siding repair, roofing and light carpentry.

During the Group Workcamp week RCCDC will repair and restore 65 homes, create better living conditions for residents, boost community pride, Bring people together – such as civic groups, businesses, churches all working towards a meaningful end. In addition Group Workcamps will bring thousands of dollars into our local economy.

Students will be housed at Pasquotank County High School.

Since 1996 Group Work Camps direct community financial impact into our community is close to $1.2 million dollars; GWC has also provided over 59,000 volunteer hours and over 2300 volunteers has provided home repairs in our community.

Group Workcamps has become an invaluable partner. It’s remarkable the impact that a fresh coat of paint can have, not just on a house or a neighborhood, but on the outlook of the family who lives there.

RCCDC would appreciate your help in the following areas:
  • Financial assistance to purchase needed building materials
  • Volunteer Support (before, during and after the camp)
  • The use of 8’, 16’, 20’, and 24’ ladders.

To volunteers, financial support and to lend us your ladder, please contact River City Community Development Corporation at (252) 331-2925 or rivercitycdc@rivercitycdc.org. Thank you very much for your continued support as we work to provide a better quality of life for residents of our community.
