VIKINGS ROLL OVER LINCOLN WITH 54-18 HOMECOMING VICTORY

ECSU Closes Out Home Slate in Dominating Fashion

ELIZABETH CITY, NC - After a slow first quarter the Elizabeth City State University Vikings pulled away for a convincing 54-18 Homecoming victory over Lincoln University of Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon at Roebuck Stadium.

ECSU got on the board first when Creven Powell threw a 9-yard touchdown strike to Dexter Manley with 6:05 left in the first quarter. In the second quarter the Vikings pulled away using 4-yard rushing scores by both Daronte McNeill and Cedric Blacknall along with a 51-yard punt return a touchdown by Reggie Smith his third punt returned for a score this season.

The Lions managed to score with just 22 ticks left in the first half when Brandon McElwee blocked a Daniel Mendez punt through the back of the end zone for a team safety.

The Lions (3-5) capped off their most impressive drive of the afternoon, an 8 play 60-yard drive in the third quarter, when Laquan Williams found Trey Thomas for a 13-yard touchdown pass. Playing in his final game at Roebuck Stadium, senior Justin Hamilton answered just 10 seconds later, with the first kickoff return for touchdown of his career, good for 82-yards and a 40-10 Viking advantage. Hamilton finished the afternoon with 4 tackles, an interception returned for 14 yards and three breakups.

Manley finished the day with 6 catches for 107 yards and a season high 3 touchdowns. Creven Powell was 15-for 22 for 198 yards and two touchdowns.

The Vikings (5-3, CIAA 3-2) will hit the road to battle Saint Paul's College in South Hill, VA next Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
