LADY VIKINGS TAKE SEASON OPENER WITH 72-67 VICTORY OVER MOUNT OLIVE

Gill Registers Double-Double in Lady Vikings’ Season Debut

MOUNT OLIVE, NC - The Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings went on a 10-1 run late in the second half in route to a 72-67 victory over Mount Olive College Sunday afternoon.

Kenyatta Gill led ECSU, posting team highs of 16 points and 13 rebounds. Joyce Freeman added 15 points while Kearah Jefferys and Shaquella Johnson contributed 12 and 11 points respectively off the bench.

The Lady Vikings gave up 21 second chance points (MOC had 20 offensive rebounds) however they overcame that by shooting a solid 51.6% from the floor in the second half. After back to back jumpers by Freeman sparked the Lady Vikings’ run a jumper by Jefferys with 1:35 to go gave ECSU the lead for good (65-64).

Helen Moore led all scorers with 21 points in 25 minutes for the Lady Trojans (0-1).

ECSU (1-0) will hold their home opener tomorrow at the RL Vaughan Center against Washington Adventist University. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
