BROOKS NAMED CIAA DEFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Brooks and McNeill Tabbed for 2009 All-Rookie Team

HAMPTON, VA- Josh Brooks and Daronte McNeill were named to the 2009 CIAA All-Rookie team as voted on by the CIAA Sports Information Directors.

Defensive Back Josh Brooks has been named the 2009 CIAA Defensive Rookie of the Year after turning in a solid first year as a regular in the Viking secondary. He tallied 25 solo and eight assisted tackles for 33 total tackles. The Washington, DC natives had three interceptions, one pass break up, four passes defended, and two forced fumbles in 10 games this season. Brooks had season highs against Virginia State University (8 tackles) and Chowan University (5 tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception).

McNeill was named to the to the All-Rookie offensive team after leading ECSU in rushing in 2009. His rushing average ranked 6th in the CIAA and he was second in the league in touchdowns (scoring) with nine in 8 games.

BELL REPEATS AS CIAA VOLLEYBALL COACH OF THE YEAR

Lady Vikings Top CIAA Eastern Division for Third Consecutive Season

HAMPTON, VA - For the second consecutive season Elizabeth City State head volleyball coach Linda Bell has been named the CIAA Volleyball Coach of the Year.

Now in her sixth year at the helm of the Lady Viking volleyball program, Bell has led ECSU to its third consecutive CIAA Eastern Division Championship. The Lady Vikings are 20-14 overall and finished the regular season with a 13-1 mark in the CIAA.

ECSU will open up the 2009 CIAA Volleyball tournament tomorrow (November 6th) at 11:00 am against Shaw University. They will face Bowie State at 3:00 pm and Fayetteville State University at 7:00 pm. All games will take place at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, VA. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
