HAWKS HAND LADY VIKINGS 64-51 ROAD DEFEAT

ECSU Struggles from the Field in Second Straight Loss

MURFREESBORO, NC - Chowan University’s Ransheeda Jennings scored a game high 19 points as the Hawks defeated the Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings 64-51 Monday evening at the Helms Center.

The Lady Vikings shot a season low 30.9% from the field and for the first time this season failed dial from long range going 0-6 from behind the 3-point arc. Joyce Freeman was the only ECSU player to register in double figures with 12 points.

The Hawks, who held a 32-28 lead at the break, went on a run midway through the second half and a Taylor Hughes 3-pointer with 10:26 left gave the home team a 49-34 advantage. Chowan also made the most of their time at the free throw line in the second stanza, converting 13 of 19 shots.

For their part the Lady Vikings out-rebounded the Hawks 44-34 with 19 coming on the offensive glass.

ECSU (6-4, CIAA 2-4) will return home on Saturday, January 9 to complete their season series with Johnson C. Smith University. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 pm at the RL Vaughan Center.
