ECSU PLAYER, COACH RECEIVE CIAA HONORS

Sharpless Named CIAA Rookie of the Week for the Sixth Time

HAMPTON, VA - Two members of the Elizabeth City State University men’s basketball team have been named CIAA Rookie and Coach of the Week as released from the conference office Monday afternoon.

Freshman guard Angelo Sharpless has been named CIAA Rookie of the Week for the sixth time this season. The Plymouth, NC native averaged 14 points over three games last week and scored a career high 24 points as well as the winning basket in the Vikings one point upset of Virginia Union University on February 11th. He is the Vikings’ currently tied at first on the team in scoring at 13.2 points per game.

Shawn Walker has been named CIAA Coach of the Week after guiding the Vikings to a 2-1 record last week. ECSU handed Virginia Union their only loss in the CIAA East while giving the Vikings their first win over the Panthers in Richmond in his tenure. ECSU also defeated Lincoln 85-76 while their only setback was a two-point loss to Bowie State.

The Vikings will wrap up the regular season at Virginia State on Thursday. The CIAA Tournament begins next week in Charlotte, NC. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
