By Will Harris, Daily Advance(Tuesday, February 2, 2010) Bobby Vaughan and Elizabeth City State athletics go hand in hand. Some might even say that Vaughan is ECSU athletics, having served as head basketball coach, athletic director, chairman of the physical education department and assistant football coach.
When Vaughan arrived at ECSU in 1949, he began saving photos and newspaper clippings. Now, he is taking that material along with other archived photo from the university and producing a book that chronicles the history of Vikings sports during his time as a coach.
"The Elizabeth City State University Sports Legacy with Coach ‘Bobby’ Vaughan 1949-1986" is more than just a collection of old team photographs. Vaughan puts them in perspective with stories and his own recollections of the time.
The book came about during the 40th reunion of the 1969 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship basketball team.[read more]
