Mid-Atlantic Christian University accreditation reaffirmed.

Elizabeth City, NC. (February 24, 2010) – Last week, February 16, 2010, Mid-Atlantic Christian University received notification that its accreditation has been extended until the year 2020 by The Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE). Ten years is the maximum length of time that the federal government allows accrediting associations to accredit a school.

The process of reaffirming the University’s accreditation began in the spring of 2009. The University submitted a compliance document this past summer and then hosted an accreditation team in September. The Commission on Accreditation for The Association for Biblical Higher Education voted last week to extend the school’s accreditation. MACU has been accredited by ABHE since 1979.

President D. Clay Perkins commented, “We are proud of the faculty and staff at MACU. Many hours have gone into the assessment process to ensure that the school is in compliance with the standards of ABHE. Our vision is to be a place of superior biblical higher education, and the reaffirmation of our accreditation with ABHE is a testimony that we are reaching that vision.”

Kevin Larsen, Vice President for Academic Affairs notes, “In the past three years we have enhanced our curricular offerings in a number of disciplines. We have formed partnerships with College of the Albemarle and Elizabeth City State University. We are anticipating the launch of a degree completion program this coming fall in two different disciplines, Organizational Leadership and Family Studies. We are putting the final pieces together for an elementary education teacher licensure program that we hope to launch in the next year or two. These are exciting times for the MACU family. We value our relationship with ABHE, and we appreciate their confidence in the quality of education that we provide our students.”

Mid-Atlantic Christian University is also accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The next review with SACS is scheduled for 2015.

Association for Biblical Higher Education - ABHE exists to enhance the quality and credibility of higher educational institutions that engage students in biblical, transformational, experiential, and missional higher education. More information can be found at www.abhe.org
