March 7, 2010

BARCO, NC- The Saint Augustine’s College Falcons swept a CIAA baseball double header from Elizabeth City State University 10-1 and 9-8 Sunday afternoon at Currituck County High School.

In the first game the Vikings committed four errors and managed only one run when an RBI single by Gustavo Arcia scored Khatim Butler in the bottom of the 6th. Just the opposite, SAC stayed hot scoring 10 runs on 11 hits against no fielding errors. The Falcons’ Ryan Wood improved to 3-0 this season with a complete game, striking out eight batters.

Game two was a see-saw affair in which the Vikings led 2-0 until the Falcons reeled off 5 runs in the top of the 3rd to take a three run advantage. ECSU responded in their half of the inning with four runs for a 6-5 lead. Then with the score knotted a 7 apiece a double by Joe Pierce scored two and the Falcons took the lead back 9-7 in the top of the 6th.

A one out homer by Butler in the bottom of the 7th pulled ECSU to within a run but back to back groundouts ended the rally, sending the Falcons to an unblemished 6-0 record in the CIAA and 11-3 overall.

The Vikings (4-4, CIAA 1-2) will take on Newport News Apprentice on Tuesday in Newport News, VA. The single game is slated to begin at 2:00pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com
