September 2010 - 24th Annual Landmark Show

24th Annual Landmark Show

Juror: Richard Garrison - www.richardgarrisonart.com

General Statement:
“I look for several elements in a work of art, which come into play when judging that work. Not necessarily in this order-I look for: originality, expressiveness, composition, craft or technical ability, drama, economy or putting in just enough, and presentation. For me, all the award winners in this Landmark Show ranked high in each of these elements.”

Award Winners:

First Place - Sponsored by: Long & Foster (Phyllis Bosomworth, Gary Hobbs & Erin Nixon): “Crab Pickers” - Jane Perry

“This is a beautifully painted and wonderfully detailed work that, with its emphasis on the gloved hands of the crab pickers, gives a great impression of the work being done.”

Second Place - Sponsored by: The Daily Advance: “Baskets For Sale” - Nancy Midgette

“With beautiful color, great technical ability with a difficult medium, and a wonderful sense of light, this painting accurately and expressively presents a familiar everyday scene.”

Third Place - Sponsored by: First South Bank: “OBX Style” - Phil Cameron

“This piece has a very nice sense of light and open space that captures quite well the feeling of the Outer Banks.”
