Elizabeth City State Clips Hawks at Home

MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University volleyball team dropped a tough match to Elizabeth City State University tonight with a final match score of 3-1. Elizabeth City State came into the match undefeated in CIAA play and in first place in the CIAA Northern Division. The Hawks dropped a five-set thriller to the Lady Vikings earlier this season, giving them their only CIAA loss. That set up tonight's highly anticipated match up between the CIAA Northern Division's top two teams but it was the Lady Vikings that pulled out the win in four sets. Chowan put three players in double digit kills and out hit ECSU 45-31 but the Hawks gave up 13 points on service errors which proved to be costly.

ECSU jumped out to an early 1-0 match lead after taking the first set 25-20. Chowan bounced back with a 25-12 second set win but dropped the last two sets 25-17 and 25-21.

CU's Karina Monroe led all hitters on the night with 18 kills. Taylor Jones had a season-high 13 kills and Victoria Lewis tallied 11 klls and four service aces. Callie Armistead had 40 assists and four digs in the loss.

For ECSU, Whitney Green and Lia Scott had nine and eight kills respectively. Jasmin Knox set up 20 assists and Cassie Noe had 13 digs.

ECSU remains undefeated in the CIAA at 14-0. They improve to 17-5 overall. Chowan moves to 14-11 on the year and 12-2 in the CIAA. The Lady Vikings have three CIAA matches left while the Hawks have four left.

The Hawks will travel to Lincoln on Friday and over to Bowie State on Saturday for their next matches.
