Elizabeth City, NC — It’s CSI—Crime Scene Investigation—Port Discover Style, at Port Discover’s Afterschool Science, Thursday, October 28 from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Joining Port Discover CSI will be Investigator Brent McKecuen from the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office and agents from the State Bureau of Investigation who will demonstrate for children the science behind crime scene investigations.

Afterschool Science is Port Discover’s new interactive science program featuring a different and timely topic each month. This free afterschool science program is made possible thanks to support from the City of Elizabeth City. No reservations are necessary.

During CSI—Port Discover Style, children will investigate a fictional crime scene using the techniques used by forensic scientists. They will test their skills at solving the crime as they work to identify blood types and fingerprints. Children will get a hands-on experience of fingerprint dusting and collection techniques. A mystery scavenger hunt at Port Discover will also be ready for the young investigators—with a special treat for every investigative effort.

The November Afterschool Science Program is Down & Dirty set for Thursday, November 18. Children will get down and dirty as they learn what makes dirt and how it impacts our everyday life. They will learn the ins and outs of dirt by playing in mud, digging a soil pit, leaning to compost and planting a plant to take home for a winter garden.

Port Discover is located at 611 East Main Street, Elizabeth City, NC. Port Discover’s hours are Tuesday through Friday from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
