October 27, 2010

ELIZABETH CITY, NC - The Elizabeth City State University volleyball team swept both Lincoln University (PA) and Saint Paul’s College at the RL Vaughan Center Wednesday night.

With the victories the Lady Vikings conclude a perfect sweep of all CIAA opponents this season and will enter next weekend’s CIAA Volleyball Tournament (November 5-7) in Hampton, VA as the #1 seed out of the Northern Division.

ECSU defeated Lincoln University 25-14, 25-17, 25-11 in just 54 minutes then swept Saint Paul’s College in 48 minutes 25-6, 25-10, 25-5. Lia Scott led the way in both matches with 11 and 12 kills, respectively.

Prior to the start of their match with Saint Paul’s, ECSU paused to salute six Lady Vikings who were playing in their final home game at the RL Vaughan Center. During their four years together. Jasmin Knox, Stacie West-Bruner, Xie’Ara Maybank-Smallings, Samarri Griffin, Cassie Noe and Keshia Hardy had quite an impressive run. They posted a 56-2 mark in conference play which included two undefeated CIAA seasons (2008, 2010), captured the school’s first ever CIAA Championship in 2008 and that same year was the first Lady Viking team to advance to the NCAA Playoffs.

ECSU (20-5, CIAA 18-0) will begin their quest for the 2010 CIAA Volleyball Championship November 5 in Hampton, VA at the Boo Williams Sportsplex. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
