Vikings Use First Half Cushion, Hold On for Non-Conference Road Win

December 12, 2012

TAKOMA PARK, MD - Elizabeth City State University held off Washington Adventist University for a 72-59 win Wednesday night.

Glenn Patterson scored 12 of his season high 15 points in the first half, connecting on 4 of 5 attempts from behind the three point line. Angelo Sharpless finished with another double-double (21 points, 10 rebounds) his fourth of the season and second in as many games.

The Shock (3-10) placed four in double figures with Stephon Berry and Harvey Todd scoring 12 apiece in the losing effort.

The Vikings were up 35-20 at the intermission and led by as many as 24 (52-28) with 14:30 left in the game.

The contest was dictated by an incredulous amount of free throws with the two teams combining for 75 attempts from the charity stripe. The Vikings went 20-35 while WAU shot 25-45 on the evening.

The Shock trailed the entire game but managed a late push in the waning minutes to cut the Viking lead to single digits 68-59 with 57 seconds left. ECSU closed the game out at the free throw line, pushing the lead back to double figures for the final point spread.

ECSU (6-2) will play their final home game of 2012 when they host Saint Leo University on Monday at the RL Vaughan Center. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 pm. Follow on Twitter @ECSUVikings and visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
