COA Regional Aviation and Technical Training Center Ribbon Cutting Celebration

College of The Albemarle will celebrate the opening of the Regional Aviation and Technical Training Center with a Ribbon Cutting Celebration and Campus Opening on Friday, August 2nd at 9 a.m.  The center, located at 107 College Way, Barco, NC 27917, is the college’s fourth location within its seven county service area.

This state-of-the-art, 40,000 square foot facility is unique in its appearance and design, housing four aviation labs focusing on sheet metal, avionics, composites, and powerplant. In addition, it houses four classrooms, one of which is a scale-up classroom that promotes problem-based learning and encourages teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Each lab and classroom is equipped with the latest in high tech teaching tools and aviation equipment. The college has acquired two aircraft for its instructional program - a Cherokee 140 and a Cessna Commuter.

With SACS approval of the site, programs of study to be offered at the Regional Aviation and Technical Training Center include Aviation Systems Technology (pending FAA approval), Architectural Technology, Computer Integrated Machining, and Mechanical Engineering Technology. All of these programs will begin in August 2013. Students completing these programs of study will have the skills and knowledge to secure a high tech, high paying job with local and nationally known employers.
