August 2013: Arts of the Albemarle Announces 27th Annual Landmark Show

Arts of the Albemarle Announces 27th Annual Landmark Show
 presented by Gateway Bank

(Elizabeth City, NC-August 14)  Arts of the Albemarle announces its 27th Annual Landmark Show & Competition beginning Friday, September 6th through October 1st.  The opening reception will be held on First Friday September 6th   from 5:30-7:30 pm where the winners and awards will be presented.   Artists 18 years of age or older may enter two pieces of artwork for a $40 AOA Patron Entry Fee or $50 Non-Patron Entry Fee.  Businesses or individuals who would like to reserve one of the paintings for purchase may commit to a purchase award and will be invited to an exclusive reception on Friday, September 6th at 4:30pm.  The competition offers over $1300 in cash prizes.

About the Juror:A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, Fred Bayersdorfer is the Assistant Dean of the Arts, College of Arts and Letters at Old Dominion University. He holds a bachelor of fine arts and master of humanities degrees from ODU.  He has been an adjunct instructor in art history and criticism at ODU (1989 -2007), director of University Gallery at ODU (1989 – 1895), and Arts Assistant to the Dean, (1995 – 2007).  He has written art criticism for the Virginian Pilot. Prior to coming to ODU he was director of the Museum of Art, Science and Industry in Bridgeport, Connecticut (1983-85) and director of the City of Portsmouth Museums system (1975 – 83).   As Assistant Instructor in the art department he taught art criticism and theory for the art history program as well as senior show for art studio majors.
