COA’s Elizabeth City Campus Offers Healthcare Continuing Education Classes 

Medication Aide
College of The Albemarle will be offering a Medication Aide course, beginning November 7, 2013. The class will be held Thursdays and Fridays from 8 am-2 pm at the Elizabeth City, campus. The registration fee is $70. This course covers the basic preparation for the administration of medications by unlicensed persons in a variety of settings. It is designed to prepare persons to take the competency testing required for listing as a Medication Aide in the State of North Carolina. You must be pre-registered. Pharmacy Technician
College of The Albemarle will be offering a Pharmacy Technician course, beginning August 21, 2013. Students will meet Wednesdays from 6-9 pm and Saturdays 8:30am-12:30pm at the Elizabeth City, campus. The registration fee is $180. The course provides the student with the basic knowledge and skills required to work as a technician in a drug store or other pharmacy. You must be pre-registered. Nurse Aide I 
College of The Albemarle will be offering two Nurse Aide I courses beginning in August. There will be a weekday course held August 26-October 16 Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8am-2pm. Also, a weekend course will be held August 23-October 13 Fridays 3pm-9pm, Saturday and Sunday 11am-5pm. The registration fee is $212.50. This course introduces basic nursing skills to provide personal care for patients, residents, or clients in a healthcare setting. Upon completion of the course, the student is eligible to sit for the competency exam through PearsonVue® for listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry. You must be pre-registered. Healthcare Billing and Coding 
College of The Albemarle, Elizabeth City Campus will be offering Healthcare Billing and Coding class beginning September 3- November 18, on Tuesdays from 6pm-8:15pm. This course is a hybrid course. It will meet face-to-face and online. This course prepares an individual for entry level healthcare coding and billing positions. Course topics can include but are not limited to the roles and responsibilities of this position, managed health care, life cycle of an insurance claim, legal and regulatory considerations, coding regulations, reimbursement issues, claim instructions, medical terminology, filing commercial claims, insurance plans, Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, and Workers' Compensation.
