    - Friday, January 30 -
  • Check in Fairfield Inn by Marriott 252-333-1003
  • 8:00 pm - Meet and Greet in Hospitality Room at Marriott. Refreshments free

  • - Saturday, January 31 -
  • Continental Breakfast at the Marriott (free)
  • 12:30 pm - 40th Reunion Luncheon at the Kermit White Graduate Center (Adults $20.00 in advance, $35.00 at the door, Children under 12 yrs $10.00, Children under 5 yrs FREE) - To reserve Luncheon tickets at the $20.00 rate PLEASE email your name and the number of tickets you wish to reserve to Robert Vaughan. Do not send money, bring checks made payable for the amount payable to: ECSU FOUNDATION/ATHLETICS
  • 5:30 pm - Girls Basketball Game at Vaughan Center, ECSU vs Shaw University, Admission $15.00 also includes 7:30 pm Boys Game.
  • 7:00 pm - All former basketball players and Cheerleaders who played or cheered for Elizabeth City will be invited to courtside for a mass picture and decades introductions 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, 2000's are invited to participate.
  • 7:00 pm - All the 1969 Viking Cheerleaders and Ball Players meet in room 109 at the Vaughan Center.
  • 7:10 pm - All the 1969 Viking Cheerleaders and Ball Players will be introduced at courtside.
  • 7:15 pm - Presentation of the $40,000 check to the chancellor.
  • 7:20 pm - Introduction of teams the 2009 Viking Ball Players.
  • 7:30 pm - Men's Basketball Game at Vaughan Center.

  • Half-Time of the Boys game refreshments will be served in Hospitality room 109 at the Vaughan Center for All the ball players, cheerleaders, family and friends are invited. Refreshments free.

    Immediately after the game Socializing and Hospitality at the meeting room in the Fairfield Inn by Marriott. Refreshments free.

    Dismal Swamp State Park - January & February Events

    We encourage participants to pre-register for all programs by calling the park office at 252-771-6593.

    Wednesday, January 21st:
    Bird Hike: Join a ranger and see what birds call the park home during the winter. Open to all experience levels, whether you’re looking to learn the basics or add to your Life List, just don’t forget a good pair of boots. Binoculars will be provided. Registration required. Meet in the visitor center lobby at 10:00 am.

    Sunday, January 25th:
    Backyard Birds: Ever wonder what types of birds can be found in your own backyard? If you are interested in those little creatures and curious about how to create the right environment for them to be happy in, then this program is for you. Join our ranger at 10:00 am in the auditorium and be prepared to go for a hike in the swamp. Dress appropriately for the weather and hiking. Suitable for all ages.

    Whose Scat is That?: Animals leave behind clues that tell us many things. One clue that is often overlooked, or even actively avoided, is scat. Yep, animal droppings have tales to tell if we are willing to listen. Join a ranger in the classroom at 2:00 pm to find out what we can learn from scat. Not suitable for very young children. Pre-registration required.

    Sunday, February 15th:
    Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: It’s easy to be green! Join us in the park auditorium at 3:00 pm to discover ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

    (Elizabeth City, NC, Jan. 13, 2009) – Just a few weeks following America's Presidential Inauguration, Edith P. Mayor, curator emeritus in political history of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, will discuss "Presidential Families" at a Feb. 5 lecture in Elizabeth City.

    Port Discover Seeks Volunteers

    Elizabeth City, NC — Port Discover: Northeastern North Carolina’s Center for Hands-On Science is recruiting volunteers to assist at Port Discover. Volunteer hours are available in the afternoon, both weekdays and weekends. Volunteer opportunities include assisting with children’s programs at Port Discover, greeting the visitors, and helping at occasional special events and outreach programs.

    Blackbeard's Crew Plunders Museum of the Albemarle

    "Blackbeard’s Crew Plunders Museum of the Albemarle"

    The Museum of the Albemarle in conjunction with the Albemarle Potato Festival will be the site Pirate activities beginning on Friday, May 15, through Saturday, May 16, 2009.

    Blackbeard’s Crew will create an encampment and entertain with living history exhibits by accurately portraying the lifestyle, manner of dress and speech, common knowledge and skills, weapons, tools and crew organization of both pirates and ordinary seamen both afloat and ashore during the Golden Age of Piracy.

    On Friday, May 15, 2009 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm mingle with Blackbeard’s Crew on the Museum of the Albemarle’s porch. A $10.00 donation per person will allow visitors an opportunity to belly up to the table with members of Blackbeard’s Crew while feasting on BBQ, fried chicken, cole slaw, buttered potatoes, hush-puppies, tea and dessert. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased at the Museum of the Albemarle.

    Blackbeard’s Crew will return on Saturday, May 16, 2009 from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm with an encampment set up on the Museum of the Albemarle’s Green offering interaction with the Pirates and Crew through demonstrations such as the weapons and tools a pirate or crew member would have possessed, live cannon firing and a number of other activities.

    The weekend of activities is perfect for all ages.
