CHOWAN DOMINATES IN 84-60 WIN OVER ECSU

January 23, 2010

ELIZABETH CITY, NC - The Chowan University Hawks exploded from the opening tip and never looked back as they handed Elizabeth City State University an 84-60 loss Saturday night at the RL Vaughan Center.

All five Hawk starters scored in double figures with Mark Brown tallying game highs of 23 points and 11 rebounds. Brown and teammate Nate Walchuk each hit five three-pointers a piece, matching ECSU’s total team output in the game.

Chowan (12-4, CIAA 9-2) began the game with a 7-0 lead and on Walchuk’s second three-pointer at the 15:41 mark in the first half gave the visitors a double-digit advantage. With 4:41 left in the first stanza a Quintin Spady three-pointer pulled ECSU to within nine (36-27) but Chowan closed the half on 10-1 run to take a 46-28 lead into the locker room.

The second half yielded more of the same as Chowan shot 50% from the floor including six second half three-pointers, deflating any chance of an ECSU rally.

Paul Goldsmith finished with a team high 15 points while Spady led all bench scorers with 13 points.
