BALANCED SCORING LEADS ECSU PAST LINCOLN 85-76

Four Vikings Starters Tally Double Figures in Road Win Over Lions

LINCOLN, PA- Marquie Cooke scored a team high 21 points as the Elizabeth City State Vikings held off Lincoln University of Pennsylvania for an 85-76 win Saturday afternoon at Manuel Rivero Hall.

Cooke was one of four ECSU starters in double figures. Trent Bivens scored 15 points, B.J. Williams added 12 points and Paul Goldsmith notched a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds.

After holding a 40-31 lead at the intermission the Vikings pushed their lead to 18 points (66-48) with 11:34 remaining. The Lions then rallied behind some hot three-point shooting and with 2:46 left a trey ball by Dante Blanton-Holcombe pulled the home team to within five, 79-74. Cooke answered on ECSU’s ensuing possession and the Vikings went 4-6 from the line in the final minute while Lincoln managed only one field goal the rest of the way.

Angelo Sharpless contributed 16 points off the bench for ECSU while Ladaye Johnson led five Lions in double figures with a game high 22 points.

The Lions (2-20) hit eight three-pointers in the second half but were out-rebounded 43-32.

ECSU (13-12) will host their final home game of the year when they host Saint Paul’s College on Monday at the RL Vaughan Center.
