LADY VIKINGS TOP SAINT PAUL’S 76-64 ON SENIOR NIGHT

Freeman Scores Season High In Vaughan Center Finale

ELIZABETH CITY, NC - Joyce Freeman scored a season high 26 points in her final home game at the RL Vaughan Center as Elizabeth City State downed Saint Paul’s College 76-64 Monday evening.

ECSU held a 10 point lead with 4:51 to go in the first half before the Lady Tigers closed the half on a 13-4 run and the Lady Vikings clung to a 35-34 lead at the intermission. The two teams traded baskets through the start of the second half and the game reached it tenth tie, 44-44, on a free throw by Breeann Johnson with 11:05 remaining.

ECSU then took control of the game with an 11-5 run, pushing the lead back to double digits to close out their 17win of the season. Kenyatta Gill had 17 points while Shaquella Johnson added 11 points for the Lady Vikings.

The Lady Tigers struggled from the field in the game, connecting on only 19 of 61 attempts (31%).

Juantale Cook paced Saint Paul’s (7-16, CIAA 6-13) with a team high 15 points.

ECSU (17-8, CIAA 11-8) will close out the regular season at Virginia State University on Thursday, February 18th. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 pm at Daniel Gymnasium in Petersburg, VA. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
