LADY VIKINGS TOP SAINT PAUL’S 69-62

ECSU Captures First Eastern Division Win of the Season

LAWRENCEVILLE, VA - The Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings rallied from and eight point halftime deficit to capture a 69-62 win over Saint Paul’s College Thursday evening at Brunswick County High School.

The Lady Vikings got double-doubles from both Joyce Freeman and April Whitaker en route to their first CIAA Eastern Division win. Freeman had a team high 14 points along with 11 rebounds while Whitaker chipped in 11 points and a game high 13 boards.

In the second half, ECSU outscored Saint Paul’s (6-13, CIAA 5-10) by 15 (46-31) after trailing 31-23 at the intermission. The Lady Vikings also out-rebounded the Lady Tigers 51-43 with 19 points coming off the offensive glass. ECSU won the second chance point battle 22-12 and dominated the paint 37-16.

Shaquella Johnson added a 13 point effort while Kenyatta Gill, playing in her first game since January 25, chipped in with 12 points and 9 rebounds.

Tatiana Ellis and DeAudra Brown scored 14 points apiece for the Lady Tigers.
